Kommerspeck

I’m part of a family of nerds. Which is how I came across this vocabulary word that I’ve used to entitle this post.

Our pass-times vary from reading…

To watching animation movies…

To having vocabulary wars…

To seeing who can hold their breath the longest in the water…

To reading lists of words in other languages that cannot be expressed in English using a single word.

“Kommerspeck” is one such word. It is German & literally means “grief bacon”.

It is used to describe the weight gained by emotional eating…

Example:

“Wow. Gru is really picking up weight.”

“Yes. He lost a bet to Victor. That’s kommerspeck.”

Maybe it sounds better in German. 🙂
